top-girls

It takes a special woman to grab the attention of a geek. Girls that geeks like have to be more than just hot or sexy or on the cover of magazines. They have to be a part of geek culture. They must be ensconced in geek-land and cherish the things geeks love.

10. Jenna Fischer

Jenna Fischer’s character on The Office is the type of girl every geek wants to find and take home to meet their mother. Pam is shy, sweet, and sexy. Like Pam, Jenna worked as a receptionist and administrative assistant before she hit the big time and found television fame. It is reported that she can type 85 words per minute with 90 percent accuracy.

Jenna Fischer has an undeniable authentic, genuine quality to her. She is a true Midwestern, girl-next-door type. She was raised in St. Louis by strict parents who wouldn’t even let her visit the mall on her own.  During High School she has said she had one boyfriend and the craziest thing they got up to was eating McDonald’s french fries.

In 2007, Jenna sent geeks into a frenzy when she appeared naked on the cover of tech magazine Wired. Nice work Jenna!

9. Tricia Helfer

This year’s series finale of Battlestar Galatica was one of the most anticipated television events in the geek realm. The main object of affection in that series is Tricia Helfer, who plays sexy cylon Number Six. The blonde Canadian babe plays numerous versions of her character and gets to kick ass. She’s one cool, calm, and collected other worldly being.

Tricia herself is a fan of science-fiction. Her father was a sci-fi geek and this rubbed off on young Tricia. She says she grew up watching and loving the worlds of Star Trek and Star Wars. Growing up in rural Canada left her relatively isolated from pop culture and she was not exposed to many films as a youngster. She says, “I can change my oil and fix a flat tire, but I can’t really get into a pop culture discussion.” That hasn’t stopped the former model from exploring the geeky world of video games and comic books.

Tricia has stated that she is not an avid gamer, but that didn’t stop her from appearing in the Electronic Arts video game Command & Conquer, where she played General Kilian Qatar. She says, “Even though I’ve never been involved in [gaming] in the past and I’ve never been a big gamer myself, I see it as a growing and advancing industry. I felt it was something I should open myself up to.” Similarly she voiced the character Boodikka in the recently-released animated Green Lantern: First Flight, even though she was unfamiliar with the comic books.

A hot girl delving into Geek Nation wins Tricia many brownie points.

8. Summer Glau

Summer Glau’s role as the sexy, intelligent River Tam in Firefly and Serenity gained her instant geek-cred and a legion of fans, chief among them the Browncoats. She followed up that role by playing a terminator in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Her terminator is by far the hottest, most beautiful cyborg in the Terminator world. She kicks ass, plays tough, yet also gets to shows off her ballet skills.

What draws geeks to Summer is the type of characters she plays. Her roles in Firefly and Terminator are similar. She says they are both “foreigners in their surroundings.” The characters both have difficulty relating to people around them and exist in an ‘other world’ and at the same time they are perfectly comfortable with who they are.

Summer cemented her placed in the hearts of geeks by appearing in a cameo of geek-sitcom The Big Bang Theory. In the season two episode Summer is stuck on a train with the show’s geeky leads. The hopelessly socially inept crew fawns over her and try to pluck up the courage to talk to her. This is a situation many of her fans wish they could find themselves in.

7. Morgan Webb

Morgan Webb is hot and knows videos games better than you do. She is not one of those posers who’s trotted out just to look pretty. Her authenticity and genuine passion for video games has cemented her place in the hearts of geeks worldwide. Some credit her with helping a lot of girls to get into gaming, or at least accept it. And for that, we thank her.

Morgan has been a pioneer in bringing tech and video game news to a wider audience and in doing so has assembled a legion of fans. She started her career with TechTV in 2001 after graduating from UC Berkeley. Her self-taught knowledge of all things computers and technology, coupled with her fine looks, saw her quickly becoming on-air talent.

She first appeared on The Screen Savers, the initial incarnation of Attack of the Show. In 2003 she began to co-host X-Play, a show dedicated to all things video games. She also wrote a popular column called “Tips From the Gaming Goddess” for FHM magazine. This year she branched out with another show, G4 Underground, a sort of 60 Minutes for the internet generation.

In 2004 Morgan topped a “Sexiest Techie” poll conducted by Playboy. Her prize was an offer to do a pictorial. Morgan politely declined, saying she was “very flattered” by the offer. Geeks worldwide may have not liked her decision, but there’s something to be said for a girl that keeps it classy.

6. Tina Fey

Tina Fey truly is the thinking man’s sex symbol and has been labeled a “sex kitten for geeks.” She is funny, sarcastic, intelligent, strong-willed, and talented. She has progressed from a self-described nerdy, frumpy writer on Saturday Night Live to an award-winning sitcom creator and star.

In 2007 she made the cover of Geek Monthly, a great honor for any geek. She said in an interview, “I am a nerd in real life; I think Liz Lemon may be a bigger nerd. Thank god there is Geek magazine, or what would I be on the cover of?” While appearing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Fey talked about her love of Star Wars and how she collected Star Wars figures as a kid. She says while other kids were out on dates, she was at home baby sitting her action figures. Oh Tina, you are so relatable!

5. Rosario Dawson

Film director Kevin Smith has described Rosario Dawson as “a true fangirl” and “the hottest geek on the Earth.” He’s right on the money as geeks love this girl for her work in Sin City, and her love of comic books/pop culture.

Dawson reportedly can quote lines from an obscure, but much-loved comic Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Her love of comic books has lead Rosario to create her own, titled Occult Crimes Taskforce. The comic is about a team of gun-toting New York police officers who fight crime. The character Sophia Ortiz is the splitting image of Dawson. In creating the comic book Dawson says it is “the most exciting thing I’ve been doing, as an actor; you’re only a third of the production. With this I get to be so much a part of all of it.”

Cementing her geek credentials, Dawson is a confirmed Star Trek fan. The revelation came on an episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien when Dawson greeted members of the audience in Klingon. She confirmed that Trekkies are one of her favorite things and that the world would be a better place if it was more like Star Trek.

4. Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman has uber-geek credentials. Not only did she attend an Ivy League school, she’s Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker’s mom. Now that’s royalty in geek land.

Natalie Portman is that rare child actor who has remained down-to-earth and hasn’t gone off the rails. Natalie is sexy, funny, and totally approachable. She has been labeled an “intelligent actress” who has managed to juggle a career on the big screen and her studies. She famously skipped the premiere of Star Wars: Episode I so she could study for her end-of-school exams. The studying paid off and she ended up graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Next stop was Harvard, where she studied psychology. This girl is as smart as she is beautiful.

Portman’s work on the silver screen has endeared her to geeks around the world. Her role in Star Wars instantly enshrined her into a cultural institution.

3. Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn is the current pin-up girl for geeks. Each day on Attack of the Show Olivia provides the info on tech, video games, and pop culture that geeks want to know. She’s also hot. The 27-year-old actress, host, and model currently graces the cover of Playboy magazine.

Olivia Munn was raised in Tokyo, Japan, yet returned to the United States to attend college. She says she’s an avid surfer, and has “a lot of respect for cars, gaming, and technology.” She says she can take a computer apart and rebuild it. While not a hardcore gamer, Munn is quick to point out that she regularly plays video games, though she confesses she’s not great at them. At least she tries!

Olivia is smart, funny, sarcastic, and doesn’t taker herself too seriously. She’s also a real tease and will flaunt her sexiness and perform suggestive stunts on air, such as deep-throating a hot dog.

During 2009’s Comic-Con she practically caused a riot after parading around the convention floor in a series of nerdy outfits that caused fanboy’s minds (and pants) to explode. What caused the commotion? Well, Ms. Munn pulled the cosplay card, dressing up as Princess Leia, Lara Croft, Emma Frost, and Wonder Woman. Olivia is also set to play Iron Maiden in Iron Man 2.

2. Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell is quite simply adorable. The bubbly blonde actress burst into the public spotlight as the title character in Veronica Mars, a delightful, dorky high-schooler who moonlights as a private investigator. Kristen gained more geek love when she joined the cast of Heroes, a role she clinched after meeting the writers and expressed how much of a fan she was and how she wanted to desperately be on the show.

Kristen describes herself as a “geek who loves fashion.” She is a fan of Comic-Con and has attended the event for the last five years. She says being a geek is about being passionate about “anything that’s under the radar or sort of frowned upon.” In 2008 she starred as the only fangirl in the film Fanboys, a role she found easy to relate to. Kristen is also a fan of video games and says her perfect night in is playing Mario Kart with her roommates. Oh gosh, could she get any cuter!

It should be noted that Bell has lost some of her geek love and credibility by dating stereotypical Hollywood bro-dude Dax Shepard. Come on Kristen, you’re making it look like your love for geeks was all talk.

1 Felicia Day

Felicia Day is a goddess among geeks. The 30-year-old actress first gained notice for her role as Vi on the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her work on the Joss Whedon series gave her instant street-cred and she has continued to work with Whedon on other projects.

Felicia is a self-confessed geek who loves video games, gadgets, and reading fantasy novels. She says she’s been a gamer all her life and is an accomplished World of Warcraft player, reportedly playing a “66 gnome warlock and a level 63 priest.” She was accepted to study music a Julliard but decided to do a double major in mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. It doesn’t get more nerdy than that.

Felicia’s addiction to World of Warcraft led her to create the groundbreaking and hugely popular web series The Guild. The Guild follows the lives of a group of World of Warcraft players. The show was originally written as a television pilot but was rejected for being too obscure. Felicia decided to make it anyway and in doing so became a web pioneer. She cemented her stature online by appearing in Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.

Felicia is gorgeous, kooky, down-to-earth, funny, charming, and quite simply, lovely. Any guy would love a girl like her, but for geeks, she’s simply untouchable.
