In cel­e­bra­tion of Vermont’s legal gay mar­riage and to raise aware­ness of mar­riage equal­ity nation­wide, Ben & Jerry’s is cer­e­mo­ni­ously renam­ing its fla­vor “Chubby Hubby” to “Hubby Hubby” (which, iron­i­cally, sounds con­sid­er­ably less gay):

We applaud the move, but wouldn’t it be a lot more effec­tive if Ben & Jerry’s just pulled all their ice cream from the shelves in any state with a same-sex mar­riage ban? That’d instantly cause riots and throw this issue right back on the polit­i­cal front­burner (is that a term? It is now). I’m sure the politically-ambivalent Ben & Jerry’s lovers out­num­ber the strong gay-marriage-opposers in a num­ber of states; hope­fully this name change is just Step Two of Ben & Jer­rys’ mas­ter plan (Step One was get­ting us fatasses addicted).

At least they went about it taste­fully, instead of chang­ing “Chunky Mon­key” to…any num­ber of things.
