Two things hap­pened to Rima Fakih yes­ter­day. She nearly went splat after trip­ping over the long train of her wedding-like gown. And more impor­tantly, the Miss Michi­gan USA pageant queen was crowned Miss USA. Rima, who was born in Lebanon and moved to the U.S. as a baby, said she knew she’d be crowned the win­ner when she saw Don­ald Trump‘s expres­sion. “That’s the same look that he gives them when he says, ‘You’re hired,’ on ‘The Appren­tice,’ she said. Rima will go on to rep­re­sent the U.S. in the 2010 Miss Uni­verse pageant. She also will receive a New York apart­ment for one year, an undis­closed salary, and var­i­ous beauty, health, and pro­fes­sional ser­vices. 1. She might be the first Arab-American, Mus­lim, or immi­grant, to win the Miss USA title, but the pageant orga­ni­za­tion hasn’t kept ade­quate enough records to deter­mine so.
2. Rima is a cham­pion pole dancer.
3. She believes birth con­trol pills should be paid for by health insur­ance. “I believe that birth con­trol is just like every other med­ica­tion even though it’s a con­trolled sub­stance,” said Rima dur­ing the per­sonal inter­view por­tion of the Miss USA pageant.
4. Last year, Rima became the first Arab-American crowned Miss Michi­gan USA. (Appar­ently, they keep bet­ter records than the national com­mit­tee?)
5. She has said that her sta­tus as a beauty queen “would prove that Arabs don’t always try to sep­a­rate them­selves, but instead are inte­grated into Amer­i­can cul­ture.”
6. Rima says her fam­ily cel­e­brates both Mus­lim and Chris­t­ian faiths, and she attended a New York Catholic school.
7. She earned her Bach­e­lor of Arts degree in Eco­nom­ics and minored in Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion at the Uni­ver­sity of Michigan-Dearborn.
8. She was a vol­un­teer social worker dur­ing her col­lege years.
9. Rima is the ambas­sador of The Pink Fund, an orga­ni­za­tion that pro­vides finan­cial aid to women and men afflicted with breast can­cer.
10. She has also worked to raise aware­ness of breast and ovar­ian can­cer and women’s self-defense.

From the “this stuff never hap­pened when I was in school” files, news has leaked from Hun­gary of a female teacher doing a striptease for her stu­dents at a local high school. The unnamed teacher, of Ger­man descent, was sup­posed to be super­vis­ing a party, but became engaged in an esca­lat­ing game of Truth or Dare. Dared to do a “pole dance”, she decided instead to do a full on striptease!

The teacher got down to her bra and had unbut­toned her pants before being cov­ered up by another school employee. Luck­ily, one on-the-ball stu­dent decided to cap­ture the dance on his mobile phone. The qual­ity isn’t great, but those are the breaks.

Par­ents are out­raged and want the teacher fired, but the school head­mas­ter has refused to sack the unnamed mis­tress despite pres­sure from par­ents and other teach­ers, stat­ing that she is a valu­able teacher for the school.
